CANISIUS VISITS LONG-TIME RIVAL ST.
BONAVENTURE
- The Canisius College Golden Griffins
will make the trip south from Buffalo to take on the St. Bonaventure Bonnies
tonight in the Reilly Center.
- The Griffs have dropped five straight
and come into tonight's contest with a 1-6 overall record. The five-game losing
skid is the team's longest since the 2008-09 campaign.
- St. Bonaventure is coming off a 48-43
loss at No. 24/22 Illinois Wednesday night. The Bonnies are 1-1 at home this
season.
FAST BREAK POINTS
- The Golden Griffins are coming off a
67-55 loss to South Dakota Thursday night at home.
- Tonight's contest will be the 160th
all-time meeting between Canisius and St. Bonaventure.
- This game against St. Bonaventure marks
Canisius' only game against an Atlantic 10 school on the 2011-12 schedule.
- The Griffs are 3-3 in their last six
trips to the Reilly Center dating back to Nov. 21, 1998, but the Blue and Gold
have dropped their last three trips to Olean, N.Y.
- Junior Harold Washington
leads the MAAC and ranks 31st in the nation in scoring average with 19.3 points
per game.
- Washington had 16 points in the Griffs'
loss to South Dakota Dec. 8. He's scored in double figures in all seven games
this season, and in five of those games, he's posted 15-or more points.
- Washington and fellow junior Alshwan Hymes combined
to score 34 of the Griffs' 55 points in the loss to South Dakota and the
backcourt duo was good for 30 of the team's first 36 points of the night.
- Hymes made all four of Canisius'
3-point field goals against South Dakota and he enters tonight's game ranked
first in the MAAC with 2.9 3-pointers per game.
- Sophomore Chris Manhertz is
averaging 8.9 rebounds per game, which ranks second in the MAAC. He is pulling
down 10.7 boards per contest in the team's last three games.
- Sophomore Reggie Groves had
a season-high five assists against South Dakota and also pulled down six
rebounds, which matches his career high.
ABOUT THE BONNIES
- St. Bonaventure comes into tonight's
contest with a 3-4 overall record after falling to No. 22/24 Illinois 48-43
Dec. 7, on the road.
- The Bonnies are averaging 61.7 points
per game, which ranks 13th in the 14-team Atlantic 10 Conference.
- St. Bonaventure has scored more than 70
points just once this season, posting 79 points on Cornell in the season
opener. In their last three games, the Bonnies are averaging 53.7 points per
game. The team is 1-2 in those contests.
- Senior forward Andrew Nicholson
leads the team with in both scoring and rebounding with 16.0 points and 7.9
rebounds per game. He is currently tied for eighth in the A-10 in scoring
average and ranks third in the league in rebounding average.
- Nicholson is currently tied for fifth
in the league with his 2.1 blocks per game.
- Junior Demitrius Conger
ranks second on the Bonnies' roster with his 11.1 points per game scoring
average and he ranks fifth in the Atlantic 10 in field goal percentage at 60
percent.
- The Bonnies are 1-1 at home this
season, having beaten Cornell in the home opener Nov. 11. In their last home
contest, St. Bonaventure lost to Arkansas State by a score of 58-52.
CANISIUS - ST. BONAVENTURE SERIES
- Tonight's game between Canisius and St.
Bonaventure marks the 160th all-time clash between these two long-time rivals.
- St. Bonaventure holds a 96-63 lead in
the all-time series, but the Golden Griffins have won seven of the last 10
meetings after defeating the Bonnies 80-70 last year in the Koessler Athletic
Center.
- This game will mark the 35th time the Griffs have played the Bonnies in the
Reilly Center, where St. Bonaventure holds a 29-5 lead in the series.
- The Griffs lost 25-straight games in the Reilly Center before posting a 76-74
win Dec. 3, 1994. In their six previous trips to Olean, N.Y., the Blue and Gold
is 3-3.
- Canisius has played more games against St. Bonaventure than any other
non-conference opponent.
- This is the 89th season these two
schools have met on the hardwood. In terms of years, this is Canisius' longest
running rivalry.
