- The Canisius College women's basketball team returns home to host Eastern Michigan University on Sunday.
- Canisius and Eastern Michigan are meeting for the eighth time in program history and for the fourth time in the last eight years.
- Eastern Michigan has won the last three meetings, including a 76-40 win in Ypsilanti, Mich. last season.
- Canisius is 1-2 through three games for the fourth consecutive season.
- Canisius picked up its first win of the season with a 45-43 victory at UMES on Monday.
- Canisius sophomore Jamie Ruttle leads the team in scoring and is tied for eighth in the conference with a 13.0 points per game average.
- Canisius junior Ashley Durham is tied for sixth in the MAAC in assists per game (4.3) while sophomore Jen Morabito is tied for second in 3-point field goals made per game (2.3).
- Canisius made just one 3-pointer in the win at UMES, the fewest 3-point field goals made in a Canisius win since going 1-for-15 at RIder on Dec. 5, 2004.
- Starting in 2012, the MAAC Championship will be held at the neutral-site MassMutual Center in Springfield, Mass. for three years.
- Terry Zeh is in his eighth year as head coach of the Golden Griffins. Zeh has a 116-103 record in his career, leading Canisius to the 2005 MAAC Championship, including the program's first appearance NCAA Tournament, and to the 2009 WNIT.
- Junior Allison Braun will serve as the team's captain for the 2011-12 season.
- The 2011-12 Golden Griffin roster features zero seniors for the first time since the 2004-05 team. Every other roster in the MAAC features at least two seniors.
SCOUTING THE GRIFFS
- Sophomore Jamie Ruttle, the 2011 MAAC Rookie of the Year and team's leading returning scorer (8.9), has scored eight or more points in 19 of the last 24 games.
- Sophomore Jen Morabito, a MAAC All-Rookie Team selection, is tied for second in the MAAC in 3-point field goals made per game (2.3).
- Junior Allison Braun, the team's captain for the 2011-12 season, is tied for the team lead in rebounding (5.3). Braun tied her career high with seven rebounds at Maryland Eastern Shore on Monday night.
- Junior Ashley Durham has 13 assists in the opening three games and is tied for sixth in the MAAC in assists per game (4.3). Her six assists in the opener against St. Bonaventure were the highest for the junior since she had six against Loyola on Jan. 30.
- Junior Melissa Gardner has started the last five games (two MAAC Championship games and opening two games this season) and had a career-high three assists against Towson.
- Sophomore Jen Lennox has scored six or more points in 10 of the last 13 games. The 6-foot-3 forward has a block in 19 career games and matched a career high with 26 minutes played against UMES.
- Sophomore Courtney VandeBovenkamp had five or more rebounds in 15 games as a freshman and shot 45.7 percent in the last seven games of the 2010-11 season.
- Junior Ashley Wilkes had 13 points and seven rebounds to go along with three blocks in 24 minutes off the bench in the opener — the most points by a Golden Griffin in her debut since Marie Warner had 22 points against Buffalo on Nov. 14, 2008
- Freshman Kayla Hoohuli is averaging 21 minutes off the bench for the Griffs while fellow freshman Brooke Angelos is averaging 8.0 minutes.
EASTERN MICHIGAN SCOUT
- Eastern Michigan comes to Buffalo with a 4-1 record, with the only loss for the Eagles coming to No. 23 Green Bay.
- The Eagles went 24-13 last season and 10-6 in the Mid-American Conference, finishing in third place in the West Division.
- Eastern Michigan returned two starters and eight letterwinners from last season's team.
- Senior guard Tavelyn James leads the team by averaging 27.2 points per game. James is averaging more than 21 shots per game, shooting 47.7 percent from the floor and 36.7 percent from behind the arc.
- James was a member of Team USA at the 2011 Pan American Games in October.
- Paige Redditt is averaging 10.0 points and a team-high 10.2 rebounds per game.
- Eastern Michigan is shooting 29.6 percent from behind the arc on the season. James has made 18 of the team's 24 3-pointers.
- The Eagles have a +7.8 rebounding margin and have forced 24.4 turnovers per game.
- Ann Marie Gilbert is in her fifth season at Eastern Michigan. The 1992 graduate of Oberlin College has a career record of 75-56.
SERIES HISTORY VS. EMU
- Eastern Michigan owns a 5-2 lead in the all-time series with the Golden Griffins, having won each of the last three meetings.
- Sunday is the first meeting between the teams in Buffalo since Dec. 29, 2004, a 76-61 win for th Eagles.
- Last season, Eastern Michigan defeated Canisius 76-40 in Ypsilanti, MIch. Tavelyn James led the Eagles with 20 points.
