  • The Canisius College women's basketball team opens the 2011-12 season against rival St. Bonaventure University in the Koessler Athletic Center on Monday night.
  • The 2011-12 season is the 37th in program history overall (1975-76) and 26th in program history at the Division I level (1986-87).
  • Canisius holds a 22-21 lead in the all-time series, with St. Bonaventure having won the last five meetings overall between the teams and the last three between the teams in the KAC.

  • Starting in 2012, the MAAC Championship will be held at the neutral-site MassMutual Center in Springfield, Mass. for three years.
  • Terry Zeh is entering his eighth year as head coach of the Golden Griffins. Zeh has a 115-101 record in his career, leading Canisius to the 2005 MAAC Championship, including the program's first appearance NCAA Tournament, and to the 2009 WNIT.
  • Zeh is a 1990 graduate of St. Bonaventure University.
  • Junior Allison Braun will serve as the team's captain for the 2011-12 season.
  • The 2011-12 Golden Griffin roster features zero seniors for the first time since the 2004-05 team. Every other roster in the MAAC features at least two seniors.

SCOUTING THE GRIFFS

  • Sophomore Jamie Ruttle, the 2011 MAAC Rookie of the Year, is the team's leading returning scorer (8.9) and has scored eight or more points in 16 of the last 21 games.
  • Sophomore Jen Morabito, a MAAC All-Rookie Team selection, ranked fifth in the MAAC in 3-point field goal percentage (35.4) last season and fourth in 3-point field goals made per game (1.7).
  • Junior Allison Braun, the team's captain for the 2011-12 season, has appeared in 59 games in her career, making 23 career starts. Braun led the team in FG percentage (40.4) as a freshman.
  • Junior Ashley Durham ranked third on the team in scoring (8.7) last season. She ranked 10th in the MAAC in assists per game (2.5) and free-throw percentage (72.2).
  • Junior Melissa Gardner recorded a career-high 11 rebounds in a career-high 36 minutes in the MAAC quarterfinals. She averaged 10.0 rebounds per 40 minutes as a sophomore.
  • Sophomore Jen Lennox set the program's Division I blocks record for freshmen with 28 blocks last season. She ranked 10th in the MAAC in blocks per game. Lennox has scored six or more points in seven of the last 10 games.
  • Sophomore Courtney VandeBovenkamp had five or more rebounds in 15 games as a freshman and shot 45.7 percent in the last seven games of the 2010-11 season.

ST. BONAVENTURE SCOUT

  • St. Bonaventure posted a 21-12 overall record during the 2010-11 season.
  • The Bonnies appeared in the WNIT for the third consecutive season.
  • The Bonnies tied for third in the Atlantic 10 standings — the best-ever finish in program history.
  • St. Bonaventure has won 20-plus games in each of the last three seasons.
  • St. Bonaventure returns all five starters from last year's team and 92 percent of its scoring.
  • Senior Megan Van Tatenhove is a preseason Atlantic 10 First-Team selection. Van Tatenhove averaged 14.5 points per game last season.
  • Jessica Jenkins made 100 3-pointers last season, shooting 40.2 percent from behind the arc.
  • The Bonnies shot 38.2 percent on 3-pointers.
  • St. Bonaventure had a +4.9 scoring margin and a turnover percentage of 18.9.
  • The Bonnies ranked 13th in the Atlantic 10 in offensive rebounding percentage (28.1) and third in the conference in defensive rebounding percentage (70.1).
  • Jim Crowley is in his 12th season as head coach of St. Bonaventure after serving as an assistant for four years in Olean. Crowley enters the year with a 154-174 record as head coach of the Bonnies.
