Josh Heidinger, the all-time leading scorer for the Canisius College
hockey team will continue his career in the ECHL. Heidinger signed with the
Cincinnati Cyclones, a minor league affiliate with the NHL's Montreal Canadians
and Nashville Predators, on Saturday.
Heidinger set career highs with 39 points, 11 goals and 28
assists during his senior campaign. A two-time Atlantic Hockey Player of the
Week, Heidinger finished the season strong, recording 22 points in the final 12
games while leading the Griffs to the Atlantic Hockey semifinals for the first
time since 2004.
During his tenure at Canisius, Heidinger amassed 132 points,
37 goals and 95 assists in 141 career games. He leaves Canisius with the most
career points and assists in the program's Division I history.
Heidinger is the fourth Griff to sign a professional
contract since the end of the 2009-10 season. Carl Hudson is currently playing with the Rochester Americans of
the AHL, while Dave Cianfrini and Jason Weeks signed with the Victoria
Salmon Kings and Bakersfield Condors, respectively, of the ECHL.
