GRIFFS LOOK TO END SKID AT SAINT PETER'S
- The Canisius College men's basketball
team returns to action today at Saint Peter's just 41 hours after playing at Niagara Friday night.
- The Golden Griffins are 11-13 overall
and 6-7 in the MAAC after losing to the Purple Eagles by a score of 66-54 in
the Gallagher Center.
- In its last three losses, Canisius is averaging 54 points
per game while shooting 35.2 percent from the field, dating back to the home
loss to Saint Peter's Jan. 24.
FAST BREAK POINTS
- Canisius has matched its win total for
the entire 2008-09 season.
- The Griffs have equaled their
conference win total for the previous two seasons combined.
- This will be the Griffs' third road
game in the last seven days.
- This also marks the third-straight
season the Griffs have played on Super Bowl Sunday.
- Since 1967, the Canisius men's
basketball team has played on Super Bowl Sunday a total of seven previous
times, with the team holding a 2-5 record in those contests.
- In five of the previous seven occasions
where the Griffs have played on Super Bowl Sunday, the AFC team has gone on to
win the big game.
- The Griffs will be without the services
of freshman guard Alshwan Hymes, who underwent arthroscopic knee
surgery Feb. 3. He will miss about two weeks.
- Senior guard Frank Turner became
the school's all-time assists leader with his game-high eight helpers at
Niagara Friday night.
- Turner comes into this afternoon's contest
with 558 career assists, and his 5.2 helpers per game ranks third-best in the
conference.
- His team-best eight assists Friday
marked the 74th time in his career he's led the Blue and Gold in assists for a
game.
- Junior forward Tomas Vazquez-Simmons
had one blocked shot at Niagara Friday and now stands as Canisius all-time
blocked shot leader with 184 career swats.
- Vazquez-Simmons recorded his second double-double of the
season and the fourth of his career when he was credited with 10 points and 11
boards against the Purple Eagles Friday night.
ABOUT THE PEACOCKS
- Saint Peter's enters today's game with
a 13-10 overall record and an 8-5 mark in MAAC play.
- The Peacocks fell to Fairfield Friday
night by a score of 59-46.
- Saint Peter's is 6-4 at home this
season and 4-2 in MAAC home contests.
- Saint Peter's ranks 14th in the nation
in scoring defense (59.5 ppg) and seventh in the country in field goal percentage
defense (37.4 percent).
- The Peacocks are averaging 61.4 points

- Forward Ryan Bacon is
averaging 10.3 points and 9.2 rebounds per game. He is one of four players in
the conference to average more than nine boards per outing this season.
CANISIUS - SAINT PETER'S SERIES
- This will be the 63rd all-time meeting
between these two Jesuit schools, with Canisius holding a 35-27 lead in the
series.
- Saint Peter's extended its winning
streak to five straight over Canisius Jan. 24, with a 68-55 win in Buffalo
- The Griffs are 17-11 all-time against
Saint Peter's in road games.
- Canisius won the first 12 games between these two schools
through 1975 by an average margin of 11.5 points per game.
