The Canisius College women's lacrosse team lost to Boston College on Friday afternoon, falling by a score of 14-5. The loss drops the Griffs to 1-1 on the season, while the Eagles improve to 2-0.
Junior Carly Quinn and sophomore Megan Oosting both tallied two goals in the defeat. Freshman Meghan McGunigle added her first collegiate score in her first career contest.
Making her first collegiate start, freshman Gina Molfetta recorded 10 saves in net.
The Eagles controlled the first half of play, especially on the defensive end. Boston College scored all five goals in the opening period and limited the Griffs to just five shots.
In the second half, Boston College scored the first eight goals of the period before Oosting got the Griffs on the board with 14:15 to play. Canisius outscored the Eagles, 4-1, the rest of the way for the 14-5 final.
Brooke Blue led the Eagles with seven points and six goals, while Sheila Serafino and Catherine Conway combined to make four saves in net.
Canisius is back in action on Sunday, playing at Connecticut. First draw is set for noon.
Game Notes: The Griffs were looking to start 2-0 on the season for just the second time in school history (2002) ... Canisius is now 0-2 all-time against Boston College ... McGunigle is the third Canisius freshman to score this season.
