Junior Kelly Reinwald scored in the 72nd
minute to lift the Canisius College women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory
against Rider in Lawrenceville, N.J. Sunday afternoon. With the win the Golden
Griffins advance to 8-4-0 overall and 2-0-0 in MAAC play.
"Our team
really grinded out a win today," said Canisius College head coach Jim Wendling. "Our defense gave up a
lot of shots but we never backed down. This is a great start to our MAAC
schedule."
The Griffs
and the Broncs played to a 0-0 tie in the first half as Rider outshot the Blue
and Gold 10-4 forcing senior goalkeeper Lesley
Ivinac to make four saves. Rider would continue to put offensive pressure
on Canisius firing 11 shots in the second half however it was Canisius that
would break through for the first goal of the game. In the 72nd
minute of play, Reinwald found a loose ball in the box and fired it in the back
of the net from eight yards out and that would be enough for the Griffs' eighth
victory of the season.

eight saves on the afternoon, earning her seventh win of the season and her
