MONTECATINI', ITALY - Three Golden Griffins scored 20-plus
points as the Canisius College women's basketball team dominated the Dream Team
Bianca en route to a 99-40 victory on Thursday night in the second game of its
Italy Tour '09.
Sophomore Stephanie MacDonald led the Griffs with 25 points
on 11-for-14 shooting while also pulling down six boards and dishing out five
assists. Senior Tasia Lee had 21 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and
three steals. Senior Ellie Radke had 20 points, including 3-for-3 shooting on
3-pointers to go along with six rebounds.
Sophomore Monica Kosior had 17 points on 8-for-13 shooting
while junior Micayla Drysdale had 12 points and nine assists while committing
only one turnover.
The first quarter was filled with turnovers as the teams
felt each other out. Once the pace of the game slowed down, Canisius pulled
away by scoring 28 consecutive points during a stretch that covered the end of
the first quarter and majority of the second quarter, extending a 15-13 lead to
a 43-13 advantage. Dream Team Bianca scored its first basket of the second
quarter with just over four minutes remaining in the half as Canisius outscored
Dream Team Bianca 36-10 in the second quarter.
Canisius closes out its play in Italy in Rome on Saturday, against
Roma Sistemi Pomezia.
