B.J. Adams has
been added to the Canisius College hockey staff as assistant coach and
recruiting coordinator, announced by head coach Dave Smith on Tuesday.
“I'm very excited to be joining a great program that is on
the rise,” Adams said. “Canisius College is a great school and institution that
I'm thrilled to be a part of. The hockey team is very talented and I look
forward to helping it take the next step and reach its goal of winning
championships."
Adams joins the Griffs after spending the last three seasons
as a player/coach with the Port Huron Icehawks and Flags. Among his duties in
Port Huron, Adams was responsible for recruiting, scouting and on-ice
instruction, while also serving as a defenseman with the team.
The Scarborough, Ontario native played a total of 10
professional seasons of hockey, competing in the ECHL, IHL, CHL and UHL. He was
also a four-year letterwinner at Bowling Green State University from 1996-2000.
While with the Falcons, Adams was honored with the Jim Sears Award as the
team's MVP following his senior season and was twice named the team's Best
Defensive Player.
Adams has also served as an assistant director and coach of
CAN/AM Hockey since 2000, where he was a head on-ice instructor in addition to
supervising and evaluating coaches.
“We're excited to welcome B.J. with all his playing
experience to Canisius College,” Smith said. “He has played at a high level and
also played a big role as a player/coach. We think that his playing experience will
be invaluable as he transitions to coaching.”
Adams earned his bachelor's degree from Bowling Green in
education.
