St. Bonaventure won a defensive battle over the Canisius College women's lacrosse team, 6-2. With the defeat, the Griffs fell to 4-5 on the season.
Junior Brett Poissant and freshman Megan Oosting each scored a goal for the Griffs, while sophomore Taylor Gray registered an assist.
Senior Sarah Podlesh recorded three saves in net.
The Bonnies (3-2) scored all three goals in the first half of play to head into intermission with the lead. Both teams were held off the scoreboard for nearly the first 20 minutes of the second half until Poissant scored her first goal of the season to cut the deficit to two, 3-1.
However, St. Bonaventure would tally the next two goals to grab a 5-1 advantage. Oosting answered with a goal, scoring with 6:11 left in the contest but the Bonnies scored with 2:28 left in the game to seal the 6-2 victory.
Christine Hanley led the Bonnies with three goals, while Tori Waheibi stopped five shots in goal to earn the victory.
Canisius returns to action on Friday, playing at No. 3 Duke. First draw is set for 6 p.m.
Game Notes: The eight combined goals between the two teams are the fewest for a Griffs game. The previous low was 11 in an 8-3 Niagara victory on March 29, 2004 ...
