The Canisius hockey team hits the road for a pair of non-conference games at Lake Superior State. The Griffs and the Lakers will begin the two-game set on Friday at 7:05 p.m. and wrap things up on Saturday at 7:05 p.m.
CANISIUS CONTINUES CCHA RUN
• The Griffs will play their second-consecutive CCHA opponent this weekend in Lake Superior State.
• Canisius is 2-10-3 all-time against the conference but have had some success as of late.
• Last weekend, the Griffs split a two-game set with CCHA foe Ferris State, winning the second game, 1-0. Canisius won its first game against the conference last season, also against Ferris State, 5-2.
• The Griffs are 0-1-3 all-time against the Lakers with all four contests going into overtime.
MORRISON BLANKS FERRIS STATE
• Sophomore goaltender Dan Morrison led the Griffs to their first victory of the 2009-10 season, recording a career-high 48 saves in a 1-0 victory over Ferris State.
• For his efforts, Morrison was named the Atlantic Hockey Player of the Week and Goaltender of the Week.
• Morrison's 48 saves are the most by a Griff in shutout performance. Sean Weaver set the previous standard of 46 in a 1-0 victory against Mercyhurst on Feb. 4, 2000.
• The sophomore was especially strong on the penalty kill, where he made 18 saves.
• For his career, Morrison has posted a goals against average of 2.81 and a save percentage of .915.
GRIFFS RECEIVE FIRST NATIONAL VOTE
• Following Canisius' split against CCHA foe Ferris State, Canisius earned a vote in the USCHO.com/CBS College Sports Division I poll.
• The vote was the first for the Griffs in the program's history.
• Canisius is one of three Atlantic Hockey teams receiving votes this week. Air Force and RIT are also listed on the national poll.
CANISIUS - LAKE SUPERIOR STATE HISTORY
• The Griffs and the Lakers have met on four previous occasions.
• Each game has been tied after regulation with Lake Superior State winning once and the other three contests resulting in ties.
• Both games at Lake Superior State have resulted in draws.
ABOUT THE LAKERS
• Lake Superior State split a pair of games during the Superior Showcase, losing to Minnesota-Duluth, 5-3, and defeating Michigan Tech, 3-1.
• Senior Zac MacVoy led the Lakers with four points in the opening weekend, scoring one goal and adding three assists. Junior Chad Nehring scored a team-best two goals to go along with one helper.
• Junior Brian Mahoney-Wilson started both games, posting a goals against average of 2.51 and a save percentage of .919.
• Last season, Lake Superior State posted a record of 11-20-8, including a 7-15-6 mark in the CCHA.
• The Lakers lost three of their top four scorers from last season. MacVoy finished third on the team with 26 points on a team-leading 14 goals and 12 assists.
• Mahoney-Wilson registered a goals against average of 2.66 and a save percentage of .915 during the 2008-09 campaign.
