Canisius Releases Statement Concerning Atlantic Hockey's Official Ruling

Canisius College Director of Athletics Bill Maher released a statement today regarding the discipline that was announced by the Atlantic Hockey Association resulting from the incident that occurred during Saturday night's game between the Golden Griffin hockey team and the RIT Tigers.

“We fully support the decisions made by the commissioner and his staff,” Maher said. “These suspensions are both substantial and appropriate under the circumstances. We have high expectations and standards for our student-athletes and in this case we failed to meet those standards. We regret that this incident occurred, however, now that the suspensions have been finalized, we intend to use this experience as a teaching opportunity and to reinforce Canisius College's commitment to the highest levels of sportsmanship.”

Canisius players Taylor Anderson, Phil Rauch and Jason Weeks each received one-game supplemental discipline suspensions, while Carl Hudson was suspended for the remainder of the regular season.

Canisius fell to RIT 4-1 Saturday night in Rochester, N.Y., in a game that saw the two teams combine for 251 penalty minutes with 10 misconduct penalties, five fighting majors and six disqualifications.
