Binghamton Sweeps Volleyball at Golden Flash Invitational

For the second consecutive Friday, the Canisius College volleyball team met Binghamton, and unfortunately for the Griffs, once again the result wasn't what they were looking for as the Bearcats won 30-18, 30-20, 30-19 in the Golden Flash Invitational at Kent State University.

Freshman Michella Domo (Vancouver, B.C.) led Canisius (1-7) with 11 kills on 22 attempts and had a team-best .318 attack percentage. Fellow freshman Renee Lettow (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) had six kills while junior Nicole Fafard (East Setauket, N.Y.) also had six kills, which came on 50 attempts.

Jess Stackhouse (Warsaw, N.Y.) led all players with 24 digs in the match.

Dawn Lammert led Binghamton (4-4) with 11 kills on 20 attempts while Kathleen Schauer had eight kills and Michelle McDonough and Ashley Allen each had seven for the Bearcats.

Binghamton used a similar formula throughout the match, gaining control midway through each game. The Bearcats broke open game one with a 9-2 run, had a 10-3 run in game two and closed out game three with a 16-6 stretch.

Canisius plays two matches in the Golden Flash Invitational Saturday, as the Griffs face host Kent State at 1 p.m., and Youngstown State at 3 p.m.

Match Notes: The 24 digs by Stackhouse were the most by the Griffs' libero in a three-game match since she had 28 at Iona Oct. 29, 2006... The 50 attack attempts by Fafard were the most by a Golden Griffin in a three-game match since Christina Wildes had 55 against Long Island Oct. 9, 2004... Domo had double-digit kills for the fifth consecutive match and has led the Griffs in kills in six of eight matches this season... The last time Canisius played a non-conference opponent twice in a season was in 2004 when the Griffs also met Binghamton two times.
