Volleyball Defeats Saint Peter's in Four

Box Score

Senior Jess Stackhouse led all players with 32 digs while freshman Renee Lettow had a team-high 11 kills as the Canisius College volleyball team defeated Saint Peter's 30-15, 24-30, 30-17, 30-17 on Saturday afternoon at the Yanitelli Center. The Griffs have now won three of their last four matches.

The 32 digs by Stackhouse was the fifth time this season the libero has went over the 30-dig mark in a match. Stackhouse now has 591 digs on the season and needs 31 digs in Sunday's match to break her own single-season record of 621, set last season.

“Today's win is a good sign of character when there's nothing on the line but playing for pride.” Canisius coach Cathy Hummel said. “We'll look to close out the season on a positive note on Sunday against Manhattan.”

The Griffs will finish the year with at least nine conference wins and ensure themselves of having at least a .500 conference record for the second consecutive season. Canisius is one of three programs in the league to earn that distinction.

Lettow had double-digit kills for the first time in five matches and recorded her sixth double-double of the season for Canisius (11-17, 9-8 MAAC). Michella Domo hit a .444, getting eight kills on 18 attempts while Brittany Gerde had nine kills to go along with 16 assists. Mary Curran (two solo blocks, five block assists) and Michelle Godfrey (seven block assists) led the team in blocks as the Griffs had 13 total blocks in the match.

Saint Peter's (13-21, 6-11) was led by Kim Mendoza, who had 15 kills. Four Peahens recorded double-digit digs, led by 26 from Yomi Angulo.

Canisius closes out its regular season on Sunday, when the Golden Griffins play at Manhattan. Match time is set for 11:30 a.m.

Match Notes:
Canisius has won the last six matches against Saint Peter's, dropping three games in that span... Domo didn't have an attack error for the fourth time this season... The seven blocks by Godfrey were the most for the sophomore since she had eight against Saint Peter's Sept. 30... Curran has 18 blocks in the last three matches while Domo has 14... Canisius had double-digit service aces for the second consecutive match and seven time overall.
