Canisius College Athletics to Webcast Games

Canisius College announced today that it has formed a partnership with Penn Atlantic to stream live webcasts of 16 remaining men and women's home basketball games.

The webcasts combine high-quality video in conjunction with the audio broadcasts that already air on GoGriffs.com to produce a real-time stream of true television quality over the Internet. The men and women's games against the University at Buffalo last Friday were streamed through Penn Atlantic.

“These internet broadcasts are like watching the game on television live except that you log in and watch it on your computer,” said Canisius Director of Athletics Bill Maher. “With a high-speed Internet connection, the quality is outstanding. This is a tremendous opportunity to provide our fans and alumni around the world a chance to see live Canisius basketball games.”

The video production will be done by Canisius College undergraduate students. CCTV, the Canisius College student television club, will produce the games with technical supervision provided by the Canisius Media Center.

A link on www.GoGriffs.com will point to the Penn Atlantic Web site, where fans will have the opportunity to purchase each game. In time, Canisius, in conjunction with Penn Atlantic, will launch Griffs.tv, a Web site where Golden Griffin fans can find a Canisius Webcast schedule and purchase games.

Penn Atlantic, Inc., is a Charleston, S.C.-based communications and media company, which delivers athletic events for a number of other collegiate athletic conferences and minor league professional organizations.

Penn Atlantic was contracted by the NCAA and CBS Sports to exclusively deliver selected Division II and Division III Championship games via the Internet in 2005. The company has partnered with the Western Athletic Conference to webcast 39 football games in 2006, and recently reached an agreement with the ECAC to launch ECAC.tv Nov. 15. Penn Atlantic broadcasts, delivered at 539 kbps, are of the highest quality available in collegiate athletics.
