Alana Chan Named to Canadian National Team

The Canadian Lacrosse Association has named Canisius College women's lacrosse freshman Alana Chan (Lakefield, Ontario) to the 2005 Team Canada Elite Squad.

The team of 20 players will represent Canada in the 2005 World Cup June 23-July 2, at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. Chan was chosen from a pool of invited players who participated in a training camp held Jan. 6-9, in Guelph, Ontario.

Chan served as a co-captain of the U-19 Team Canada squad that placed third at the 2003 World Championships. The 5-foot-3 midfielder played five seasons for the Kawaratha Club Lacrosse team of the OWL and was named the league's Rookie of the Year in 1999. She also served as captain and won gold medals at the Ontario Provincial Championships and the Summer Games.

Canisius College opens the 2005 season with four straight home games, beginning with a 1 p.m. contest against Long Island University March 11, at the Demske Sports Complex.
