MacDonald to Co-Chair American Cancer Society Basket Ball

Canisius College head men's basketball coach Mike MacDonald and his wife, Maura, will co-chair the first-ever American Cancer Society Coaches vs. Cancer “Basket Ball” Friday, Oct. 29, at 6 p.m. in the Adam's Mark Hotel. Buffalo's Reggie Witherspoon and his wife, Dawn, Niagara's Joe Mihalich and his wife, Mary, and St. Bonaventure's Anthony Solomon and his wife, Tracy, will also co-chair the first annual event.

“The ?Basket Ball' is a great opportunity for people to join with Coaches vs. Cancer and the American Cancer Society in helping to find a cure,” said MacDonald. “It's going to be a fun evening with the chance to win a lot of great prizes.”

All proceeds from the gala will assist the American Cancer Society in its fight against cancer. Frank Layden will serve as the honorary master of ceremony, there will be a live and silent auction and entertainment from Alyn Syms and Nik and the Nice Guys. Tickets to the “Basket Ball” are $150 or $1500 for a table of 10.

There will also be a drawing for a trip to the 2004 Coaches vs. Cancer Classic Nov. 17-19, in Madison Square Garden. The trip includes four round-trip airline tickets, two rooms for three nights at the Dream Hotel, four VIP invitations to the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic Tipoff Reception Nov. 17, and four courtside club seats for the semifinals and championship games. Since its inception in 1993, Coaches vs. Cancer has raised more than $22 million dollars. The program enables the American Cancer Society to support important work, including groundbreaking research that saves lives, education, advocacy and patient services.
