Spain Eliminates New Zealand

Ed Book scored eight points in his final 2004 Olympic appearance as Spain knocked New Zealand from the medal round with an 88-84 victory.

Book was 3-for-6 from the floor in 14:07 of action and grabbed four rebounds. Trailing 86-81, New Zealand hit a three-pointer with 1:11 left to come within two points. Kirk Penney missed on a three-point try with 14 seconds remaining, and Spain hit two free throws for the final margin.

Book, who played at Canisius from 1988-92, is the 10th all-time leading scorer in school history with 1,317 points and was inducted into the Canisius Sports Hall of Fame in 2002.

He is the second Canisius basketball player to compete in the Olympics. Micheal Meeks played for Team Canada in 2000.
New Zealnd finished the tournament with a 1-4 mark.
