Book, New Zealand Drop Game to Italy

The New Zealand men's basketball team suffered a 71-69 setback to Italy in its first contest of the 2004 Olympics in Athens.

Buffalo native Ed Book, who played at McKinley High School and Canisius College, saw 6:56 of action, went 0-for-2 from the field and grabbed one rebound.

Book, who played at Canisius from 1988-92, is the 10th all-time leading scorer in school history with 1,317 points and was inducted into the Canisius Sports Hall of Fame in 2002.

He is the second Canisius basketball player to compete in the Olympics. Micheal Meeks played for Team Canada in 2000.
New Zealand returns to action against China Tuesday.
