Songin Named To MAAC Hockey League All-Rookie Team

EDISON, N.J. -- Holy Cross' Tyler McGregor (Ajax, Ont) and Mercyhurst's Scott Reynolds (Wilcox, Saskatchewan) were selected as the 2002-03 MAAC Co-Offensive Rookie of the Year award winners and Army's netminder Brad Roberts (Cassville, NY) earned the leagues Defensive Rookie of the Year, following a vote of the league's 11 coaches. The announcement was made Thursday night at the league's championship banquet in West Point, N.Y. All three highlight the ITECH MAAC All-Rookie Team.

McGregor continues to have a stellar season for the Crusaders, as he notched the game-winner in a Quarterfinal matchup with Army back on March 15th to advance Holy Cross into the Semifinals. Tyler is tied for sixth in goal scoring in conference games with 12, and ranks third in freshman scoring (12-12-24). McGregor was named MAAC Rookie of the Week on January 27, 2003.
Reynolds is tied for first in freshman scoring in league competition (9-16-25). Scott's efforts have helped propel the Lakers into the Semifinals. Reynolds was named MAAC Rookie of the Week twice, back on January 14th and February 10th.

Roberts finished the year ranked seventh in league play with 2.66 goals against average. He also posts a .915 conference save percentage placing him fifth in the statistical category.

Bentley's Paul Markarian (Quincy, MA) and Ryan Mayhew (Owatonna, MN) both earned spots on the 2002-03 ITECH MAAC All-Rookie Team by finishing atop the freshman scoring category in conference action. Markarian currently is tied for first in the statistical category with 12-13-25, and Mayhew ranks fourth in the category with 7-16-23.

Conrad Martin (Toronto, Ont) of Mercyhurst, Tim Songin (Hamburg, NY) of Canisius, and Ryan Swanson (Maple Grove, MN) of Iona, all earned a defensive position to round off the 2002-03 ITECH MAAC All-Rookie team. Martin currently posts 3-5-8 in conference play heading into the Semifinals. Songin finished his season by recording a 2-6-8 in conference play. Swanson finished the season tied for sixth in league games in freshman scoring 4-14-18.
