Canisius College senior Shauna Geronzin (Clinton, Iowa) was named first-team All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, and sophomore Jenel Stevens (Freeport, N.Y.) was named second team on the women's side, while Brian Dux (Orchard Park, N.Y.) earned third-team honors for the men to headline the list of Griffs garnering conference honors, announced at the MAAC basketball banquet tonight.

Geronzin finished the regular season as the conference's leading scorer, averaging 20.1 points per game, while pulling down 8.3 rebounds per game. The forward enters the MAAC Tournament with 1,985 career points, leaving her 15 points shy of the 2,000-point mark for her career. Geronzin was the only women's player in the MAAC this season to score 30 points in two different games, and she is the only Canisius player to start in all 27 of the Griffs' games this season. This is the third straight year the senior forward has been named to the MAAC's first team. After her freshman season in 1998-99, Geronzin was named the conference's rookie of the year.

Stevens was named to the MAAC's second team after averaging a career-high 12.9 points per game and 7.1 boards per contest. Stevens was named the MAAC Player of the Week Dec. 10, after scoring a career high 29 points and pulling down a career best 13 rebounds in the Griffs' 86-76 win over Loyola College Dec. 9.

Junior guard Jill Knapic (Nanty Glo, Pa.) won the 2001-02 MAAC Long Distance Shoot-Out after knocking down a career-best 63 three-point field goals on 161 attempts. Knapic is the school's all-time leader in three-point percentage among players with at least 75 attempts, shooting 34.6 percent from behind the arc for her career.

Dux averaged 10.1 points and 4.9 assists in the regular season. He ranked second in the league in assists and first in assist to turnover ratio (+2.52). The point guard tallied 131 helpers this season, his second straight topping the 100 mark, and ranks seventh in school history in assists.

Geronzin, Stevens and senior guard Julie Lanphere (Santa Fe, N.M.) were also named to the conference's all-academic team. Geronzin, who is a three-time all-academic award winner, is a marketing major with a 3.37 grade point average. This is the first Stevens and Lanphere have been named to the all-academic squad. Stevens carries a 3.30 grade point average as a management major, while Lanphere, a biology major, holds a 3.20. Lanphere is averaging 3.0 points per game after seeing action in 23 of Canisius' games this season.

Dux was named to the MAAC All-Academic team and the New York State Lotto Scholar Athlete of the year. He carries a 3.20 grade point average in physical education. Senior Andrew Bush joined Dux on the all-academic Squad. He averaged 8.9 points and 4.2 rebounds this season. A graduate student, Bush has a 3.33 grade point average in physical education.

Rider's Mario Porter was named player of the year, Jerry Johnson was named rookie of the year and Don Harnum was named coach of the year on the men's side. Fairfield's Deng Gai earned defensive player of the year accolades, and Niagara's Juan Mendez was sixth man of the year.

Siena's Gina Castelli and Manhattan's Sal Buscaglia shared coach of the year honors for the women. The Saints' Gunta Basko was named player of the year and defensive player of the year, and Liene Jansone earned sixth player of the year honors. Saint Peter's Tyiana Sears was named Rookie of the Year.
