Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Draws with Mount St. Mary’s Wednesday

Junior Romero Nicolazzo notched his team-leading fifth goal of the season as Canisius and Mount St. Mary's played to a 1-1 draw Wednesday in Metro Conference men's soccer action at the Demske Sports Complex in Buffalo, N.Y.

Nicolazzo's match-opening tally helped Canisius (0-7-1, 0-2-1 Metro) secure its first points in conference play. Junior Adam Schantz made his first collegiate start in net, making three saves.

Lincoln Bauer netted the game equalizing tally in the 65th minute to pace the Mount (2-2-5, 2-0-1 Metro) to their fifth draw of the season. Ryan Collins made the start in net for Mount St. Mary's, making five saves.

The Griffs opened the scoring in the 27th minute as freshman Brayden Zavala-Lopez played a ball from the outside of the box to sophomore Noah Baumslag, who threaded the needle to Nicolazzo in the middle of the box. Nicolazzo then beat the keeper to the lower right corner to give Canisius the lead.

Canisius took the lead into the break before Mount St. Mary's found the back of the net in the 65th minute as Bauer found himself alone at the top of the box when a loose ball found its way to him. Bauer shot the ball off the bounce beat Schantz to the top right corner to even the game at 1-1.

The Griffs and Mountaineers exchanged chances down the stretch. Junior Sydney Aggrey advanced the ball up the right side before narrowly missing the net in the 80th minute for Canisius while while Mount St. Mary's' Abou Cherif hit the crossbar on a shot from inside the box moments later.
