Men’s Soccer Downed by Quinnipiac Saturday

Quinnipiac netted three first-half tallies to cruise to a 5-0 win over Canisius in Metro Conference men's soccer action Saturday at the Quinnipiac Soccer & Lacrosse Stadium in Hamden, Conn.
 
The Bobcats (5-3-0, 3-0-0 Metro) saw four different players find the back of the net, with three coming off the feet of substitutes. Alexander Hansen started in net for the Bobcats, making four saves to earn the shutout.
 
The Golden Griffins (1-8-1, 0-3-1 Metro) were held scoreless for the fourth time this season as junior goalkeeper Adam Schantz made his second start of the season, recording two saves.
 
Quinnipiac opened the scoring just six minutes into the contest on a free kick from outside the 18-yard box. as Taehyeon Lim played a ball towards the box that found the head of a Canisius defender before redirecting into the net for an own goal and an early Bobcats lead.
 
Lim added to the Quinnipiac lead in the 33rd minute when Francisco Ferreira crossed a ball into the box that Lim headed into the net to give the Bobcats the two-goal advantage.
 
Quinnipiac added to its lead with just two minutes to go in the first half as Zachary DaSilva took a shot from outside of the box that hit a Canisius defender before finding its way into the back of the net, giving the home team a 3-0 lead into the break.
 
The Bobcats made it a 4-0 contest on a corner kick in the 66th minute. Ferreira picked up his second assist of the afternoon on the play, sending the ball into the box where it found the head of Didac Roig Glories.

Joe Saputo closed out the scoring in the 87th minutes, converting on a free kick from directly outside the box to cap the Bobcats' 5-0 victory.
 
GAME NOTES
• Saturday's contest marked the 18th meeting between the Griffs and Bobcats. Quinnipiac now leads the all-time series with a 13-2-3 mark.
• Quinnipiac led the match in shot attempts with 17 compared to the five for Canisius.
• The Bobcats also led the match in corner kicks with two, compared to one for the Griffs.
• Sophomore Noah Baumslag led the match with two shots on target.
• Sophomore Henrique Dias, senior AJ Zarcone and junior Gianni Angaran all played the full 90 minutes Saturday.
• Finding himself a part of the starting lineup for the second straight match, freshman Brian Bautista played a career-high 63 minutes.
 
UP NEXT
The Griffs will continue their Metro Conference slate on Oct. 10 returning home to host Marist. Kickoff for the match is scheduled for 3 p.m.
