St. Bonaventure Takes Down Men’s Soccer in Final Non-Conference Match

Brendan Sheehan netted his third goal in his last two games to lead St. Bonaventure to a 1-0 win over Canisius in collegiate men's soccer action Tuesday at the Demske Sports Complex in Buffalo, N.Y.
 
Sheehan's goal in the 60th minute lifted the Bonnies (2-2-2) to their second win of the season as Jory Winston picked up his third clean sheet in net. Graduate goalkeeper Preston Harold started in goal for Canisius (1-5-0), finishing with six saves between the pipes.
 
Following a scoreless first half, the Bonnies and Sheehan broke the deadlock in the 60th minute as Neshawn Sutherland won a foot race to a loose ball deep in the Canisius end of the field before finding Sheehan at the back post, who slotted the ball into the empty net to give the visitors the lead.
 
The Griffs continued to apply pressure late in the second half. Canisius' best opportunity came in the 69th minute, when junior Kerby Henao got his foot on a ball inside the box during a goalmouth scramble, but Winston was able to make the save to help secure the 1-0 win.
 
GAME NOTES
• Tuesday's contest served as the 57th meeting between the Griffs and Bonnies. Canisius leads the all-time series with a 29-19-9 record.
• St. Bonaventure outshot Canisius by a 16-7 margin for the contest, with seven of those on goal.
• The Bonnies led the game in corner kicks with nine, compared to four from the Griffs.
• Freshman Lorenzo Tuch made his first collegiate start in Tuesday's contest, playing 74 minutes.
• Sophomore Henrique Dias has played a team-high 471 minutes this season.
• Dias, senior Gael Arceo and freshman Larry Jimenez all played the full 90 minutes Tuesday.
