Syracuse's Keirnan Stamey and Emma Williams each recorded 10 kills to help lead the Orange to a 3-0 sweep of Canisius in the inaugural Flower City Volleyball Invite, played at St. John Fisher University in Rochester, N.Y. Sunday afternoon.
The Orange won the match by set scores of 25-15, 25-23, 25-19. The win moved Syracuse to 4-3 on the season, while the Golden Griffins fell to 0-8 in 2026.
Stamey also had five digs on the day, as the Orange picked up their third win in their last four outs. Setter Charis Burge recorded 29 assists in the victory, while libero Yuka Urano tallied 15 digs and a pair of service aces.
For Canisius, junior Emma Isroff and freshman Emily Helmers had five kills, apiece, while freshman Kenslie Warmbrodt recorded 29 assists. Senior libero Brenda Reynaga was good for a season-high 23 digs and sophomore Alli Farmer added three service aces.
MATCH RECAP
Syracuse used a 4-0 scoring spurt midway through the first set, capped by a service ace from Burge, en route to the 25-15 set victory. In the second set, Canisius held an early 11-7 lead, but the Orange responded by scoring the set's next seven points to take a 14-11 lead. A 5-0 scoring run by the Griffs, fueled by kills from Isroff, Helmers and senior Azoria Davis pushed the Blue and Gold into the lead to 20-16, but Syracuse answered with a run of its own, scoring six-straight points to take a 22-20 lead. Moments later, the set was tied at 22-22 thanks to a pair of attack errors by Syracuse, but the Orange took a 2-0 hold in the match by scoring three of the set's final four points to earn the 25-23 victory.
Syracuse jumped out to an early 8-3 lead and never looked back in the final set, as the Orange hit .189 in the final frame to score the 3-0 sweep victory.
GAME NOTES
• Sunday marked the 17th match up between Canisius and Syracuse in volleyball since the series began in 1978.
• Sunday also marked the first NCAA Division I women's volleyball match played in Rochester, N.Y.
• Reynaga was credited with 20-or more digs for the second-straight match and fourth time this season.
• Warmbrodt has registered double-digit assists in all eight matches this year.

Canisius will begin its final weekend of non-league play on Friday, Sept. 18, when the Griffs play host to Le Moyne on the first day of the WNY Invitational. Match time is set for 6 p.m., at the Koessler Athletic Center.
