Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Falls to Marist

After the game's start time was moved back one hour because of rain, and then battling through two separate rain delays totaling two hours and 43 minutes, the visiting Marist Red Foxes scored a 15-4 win over Canisius in MAAC softball action Saturday afternoon at the Demske Sports Complex.

The Red Foxes improved to 29-19 overall and 21-3 with the road win, the team's ninth straight, while the Golden Griffins fell to 13-26 overall and 8-15 in conference play.

GAME RECAP
Marist scored multiple runs in each of the game's first three innings and then added a single run after a one-hour, 40-minute rain delay in the top of the fourth to take a 10-0 lead. Facing a mercy-rule ending in the bottom of the fifth, Canisius scored four times to extend the game into the sixth inning.

In the fifth, senior Sofia Escoto drove home junior Rebecca Hai with a sac-fly to right, and then sophomore Grace Walker knocked in a pair with a triple to the gap in right center that allowed freshman Maddy Hans and junior Ella Johel to cross the plate. Walker would cap the Griffs' scoring in the frame and make it a 10-4 ball game moments later when she raced home from third base on a wild pitch.

In the sixth, Marist added five more runs to end the scoring for the day, pushing its lead to 15-4. The Red Foxes banged out 11 hits in the win and earned a season-high 10 walks.

Marist starter Anna Sidlowski earned her seventh win of the season in the circle after she went 5.0 innings and allowed four runs on seven hits to go with three walks and four strikeouts. Canisius starter Liv Herrington took the loss for the Blue and Gold, as her record fell to 1-3 on the year.

Walker went 3-for-3 with a triple, two RBI and a run scored in the losing cause for Canisius, while Johel and freshmen Talia Yermian, Avyree Sherman and Michaela Sycalik all had base hits, as well.
