Baseball Drops Midweek Matchup to Bowling Green

Bowling Green blasted six home runs to defeat Canisius by a 9-3 margin in intercollegiate baseball action Wednesday at the Demske Sports Complex in Buffalo, N.Y.
 
Bowling Green improved to 15-20 on the season with the win. Canisius, meanwhile, fell to 10-20 with the setback.
 
TJ Takats paced Bowling Green at the plate with a 4-for-5 day, launching two home runs and driving in four runs. Andrew DiLodovico also went deep twice to finish with two RBI, while Lance Vickers and Carter Mottice added to the long ball total. On the mound, Luke Krouse earned his first win of the season, tossing five innings with two strikeouts.
 
Senior Owen Silliman drove in two of the Griffs three runs, blasting a two-run homer in the third. Graduate Kyle Finn got the nod for Canisius, falling to 0-2 on the season after tossing 1.1 innings, allowing three runs.
 
Bowling Green opened the scoring in the first, launching back-to-back blasts as Mottice started the damage with a two-run shot, followed by a solo shot from DiLodovico, giving the Falcons an early 3-0 lead.
 
The Griffs answered in the third, as Silliman launched a two-run homer to right, making it a 3-2 ballgame.
 
The Falcons struck again in the fifth, launching two more long balls as DiLodovico connected on his second homer of the day with a solo shot. Takats followed later in the frame with a two-run shot to right, giving Bowling Green a four-run lead.
 
Canisius plated one run in the bottom half of the frame as junior Eric Weeks lifted a sacrifice fly to right, cutting the Falcons' lead to three.

 
The Falcons answered in the sixth, launching their fifth homer of the day as Vickers hit a solo shot to left, making it a 7-3 ballgame.

 

Bowling Green closed out the scoring the seventh as TJ Takats recorded his second home run of the contest, launching a two-run shot to right to extend the lead to 9–3.

Canisius would load the bases in the ninth, but the Falcons worked out of the jam to close out the six-run win.
 
GAME NOTES
• Bowling Green now leads the all-time series with a 3-1 record.
• Silliman's blast in the third was his fifth of the season. The senior was also 2-for-3 at the plate, marking his sixth multi-hit game of the season.
• Senior William Enright made his season debut on the mound for Canisius, coming in on relief.
• Freshman Blake Herman posted a 2-for-2 performance at the plate for Canisius, while also scoring two of the three Griffs' runs.
• Freshman Jackson Long came out of the pen for Canisius, tossing 1.2 innings and striking out a career high five batters.
• The Falcons outhit the Griffs in Wednesday's matchup by a 12-6 margin.
• Bowling Green left 11 runners on base in the contest, compared to nine for Canisius.
 
UP NEXT
Canisius returns to conference play this weekend as it plays host to Quinnipiac in a three-game series April 17-19. First pitch for game one on Friday is set for 3 p.m. at the Demske Sports Complex.
