Delaware Shuts Out Baseball in Series Finale

Evan Bouldin hit two home runs and drove in three runs to pace Delaware in a 10-0 shutout of Canisius in collegiate baseball action Sunday at Bob Hannah Stadium in Newark, Del. 

The Blue Hens improved to 7-9 on the season with Sunday's win as it took the final two games of the three-game series. The Golden Griffins, fell to 3-9 with the loss.

Bouldin highlighted a Delaware lineup that finished with 10 base knocks in the contest. Jeremy Wolf went 2-for-4 with a solo home run while Vincent Davis and Noah Burroughs both chipped in two base hits each.  Elias Conway picked up his first win of the season on the mound for the Blue Hens, improving to 1-1 on the campaign after hurling three no-hit innings and tallying four strikeouts.
 
Redshirt freshman Bennett Cox and freshman Blake Herman accounted for the two base hits for Canisius. Sophomore Brian Smith took the loss on the mound for the Griffs, allowing two hits and four runs in one-third of an inning to move to 0-2 on the campaign.
 
After posting a 14-1 victory on Saturday, Delaware picked up where they left off in the bottom of the first as Davis lifted a double to center to score two runs before adding three more runs on a run on an RBI single from Anthony Charles and a two-run double down the left field line from Burroughs to grab an early 5-0 lead. 
 
The Blue Hens added to their lead in the second as Bouldin connected on a solo home run to left field, expanding the Delaware cushion to six. 
 
Anthony DeCesare recorded an RBI groundout in the bottom of the third to extend the Blue Hens lead to 7–0.
 
Boldin added his second homer of the day in the bottom half of the fourth, a two-run shot that extended the Delaware lead to 9-0.
 
Wolf notched Delaware's third home run of the day in the sixth inning, a solo shot that pushed the Blue Hens lead to 10–0 and closed out the scoring. 
 
GAME NOTES
• The Delaware pitching staff recorded 10 strikeouts, compared to six for the Griffs.
• Redshirt freshman Bennett Cox extended his hit streak to six games with his single in the fifth.
• The Griffs left nine runners on base, compared to seven for the Blue Hens

UP NEXT
Canisius opens up conference play March 13-15 as the Griffs travel to Emmitsburg, Md., to take on Mount St. Mary's in a three-game series. First pitch of the series opener is set for 3 p.m. at E.T. Straw Family Stadium.
