Delaware Downs Baseball to Even Series

Delaware finished the day with 15 hits, including three home runs while holding the Canisius to just two hits, en route to a 14–1 victory in collegiate baseball action Saturday at Bob Hannah Stadium in Newark, Del.
 
Delaware improved to 6-9 with Saturday's victory, as the Golden Griffins fell to 3-8 in non-conference play.
 
Chase Deibler picked up the first win of his collegiate career for the Blue Hens, tossing 4.0 innings while allowing just two hits and striking out four. Delaware's bullpen duo of Ryan Pugh and Evan Lewis combined to throw three hitless inning in relief to shut the door.
 
Junior Joe LoPinto fell to 0-2 on the hill after he went 3.1 innings, where he allowed seven earned runs on nine hits.
 
Senior Mason Cisco gave Canisius an early lead in the first inning, lifting a sacrifice fly to left that brought home redshirt freshman Bennett Cox to make the score 1–0 in favor of the visiting team.
 
The Blue Hens responded in the bottom of the second, stringing together a pair of fielders' choice ground-outs, along with a sacrifice fly from Anthony DeCesare to make the score 3-1.
 
Delaware added another run in the third as Vincent Davis hit a one-out triple before Jeremy Wolf followed with an RBI-single to extend the Blue Hens' lead to 4–1.
 
Delaware broke the game open in the fourth, scoring seven runs on five hits, highlighted by a two-run homer from Vincent Davis and a three-run blast by Matthew Minckler to make it an 11–1 game.
 
The Blue Hens would go on to add three runs in the bottom of the fifth as Davis continued his impressive day at the plate with his third hit of the day, a three-run home run to extend the advantage to 14-1 as Delaware closed out the win in seven innings.
 
GAME NOTES
• The Golden Griffins fell to 1-3 all-time against Delaware.
• Every Delaware starter scored at least one run in the contest.
• The Griffs were held hitless following their two hits in the opening frame.
• Cox extended his hit streak to five games with a 1-for-3 showing at the plate, highlighted by a lead-off double in the first inning.
 
UP NEXT
The Golden Griffins will close out their series at Delaware on Sunday, with first pitch set for 1 p.m. at Bob Hannah Stadium. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
