Hanson Tabbed MAAC Co-Face-Off Specialist of the Week

Canisius senior face-off specialist Micah Hanson has been named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference's Co-Face-Off Specialist of the Week, league officials announced Monday.
 
A native of Black Earth, Wis., Hanson shared the honor with Sacred Heart's Ryan Grove for the second straight week after posting 29 face-off wins, a .725 faceoff winning percentage, 20 ground balls and two assists in the Golden Griffins' non-conference matchups with Le Moyne and Cleveland State last week.  
 
Against the Dolphins, Hanson went 13-for-18 at the "X" and added a game-high nine ground balls in Canisius' 8-7 victory at Sahlen's Sports Park in Elma. He won 6-of-8 draws in the second half to help spark a comeback that saw the Griffs score twice in the final two minutes of the fourth quarter to earn the victory.
 
Hanson followed his performance versus Le Moyne with season highs of 16 face-off wins and 11 ground balls in the Griffs matchup with Cleveland State on Feb. 28. He also chipped in a pair of assists in the effort, the first time he has recorded multiple assists in a game during his career.
 
Canisius (1-4) returns to action Saturday as it opens MAAC play with a home contest. Start time for the matchup between the Griffs and Gaels is slated for noon at the Demske Sports Complex.
