First-Period Barrage Sparks Hockey Past Robert Morris

Canisius scored five goals in the first period to cruise to a 7-0 victory over Robert Morris in Atlantic Hockey America action Saturday at LECOM Harborcenter in downtown Buffalo.

Sophomore Jason Gallucci, freshman FJ Buteau, senior Robert Kincaid and juniors Trey Funk and Walter Zacher all scored during the opening-period salvo for the Golden Griffins (16-14-2, 11-11-2 AHA). Zacher added a second tally and sophomore Hunter Price notched his seventh goal of the season in the third to close out the scoring.

Sophomore goaltender Petter Wickström Stumer has plenty of support but did not need it as he stopped all 26 shots he faced to earn his first collegiate shutout.

Gallucci opened the scoring with a power-play goal just 77 seconds into the contest when he beat Colonials (11-18-3, 11-11-2 AHA) starting goaltender Lucas Massie with a shot from the top of the point for his first collegiate tally.
Buteau doubled the Griffs advantage to 2-0 before the game was six minutes old when his shot from the left point beat Massie to the blocker side. Kincaid stretched the Canisius cushion to 3-0 moments before the midway point of the opening frame, one-timing a feed from senior Grant Porter over the left shoulder of Massie for his fourth of the campaign. RMU made a goaltender change and put in Croix Kochendorfer in search of a momentum change, but Funk struck just 39 seconds after Kincaid's goal as he jammed home a loose puck to make it a 4-0 contest. Zacher capped the first-period barrage with less than four minutes to play in the first, beating Kochendorfer with a wrist shot to the blocker side from the bottom of the right face-off circle. After a scoreless second, Zacher struck for his second goal of the contest less than two minutes into the third when he redirected sophomore Carter Patterson's shot past the glove of Kochendorfer to make it a 6-0 contest. Price closed out the scoring with 3:50 elapsed in the third, putting home his own rebound to determine the final margin. POSTGAME COMMENTS GAME NOTES
