Volleyball Falls in Four at Saint Peters

Victoria Pruvost posted a match-high 16 kills and a .500 hitting percentage to lead Saint Peter's to a 3-1 (25-19, 22-25, 25-16, 26-24) victory over Canisius in Metro Conference volleyball action Saturday afternoon at the Yanitelli Center in Jersey City, N.J.

Pruvost paced three Peacocks (4-12, 4-1 Metro) with double-digit kills as Valeria Pagan Munoz chipped in 14 and Addison Baglio pitched in 12 while her .500 attack clip highlighted a potent Saint Peter's lineup that finished with a hitting percentage of .295 for the contest.

Senior Azoria Davis recorded a career-high 15 kills on a .520 hitting percentage and added 10 digs for the double-double for the Golden Griffins (2-13, 1-4 Metro). Junior Emma Isroff notched 14 kills and a .400 attack clip while senior Brenda Reynaga finished with 13 digs.

Trailing 9-7 in the first set, Saint Peter's took control of the frame as it scored eight of the next nine points to grab a 15-10 lead on its way to a 25-19 opening-set victory.

In a second set that saw nine ties and five lead changes, Canisius held a one-point lead before a kill by Davis and a Peacocks attack error propelled the Griffs to a 25-22 victory and a 1-1 tie.

Saint Peter's answered back in the third set, hitting .522 as a team as it recorded 15 kills on 23 swings as it cruised to a 25-16 victory and a 2-1 lead in the match.

The teams battled through seven ties during a tightly-contested fourth set. With the scored knotted at 24-24, a kill by Provost and an attack error by the Griffs allowed the Peacocks to secure a 26-24 victory and the match.
