Alex Velicico Named Metro Swimmer & Rookie of the Week

After winning three races with a pair of individual victories, Canisius freshman Alex Velicico was named the Metro Men's Swimmer and Rookie of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday.

In a tri-meet against the University of Rochester and Siena Oct. 17, Velicico opened his collegiate debut as a member of the 200 medley relay team that took first, finishing in 1:35.38.

The freshman also claimed two individual victories as he placed first in the 100 back with his time of 52.79. The Langley, BC native then closed out his collegiate debut by taking first in the 500 free, finishing in 4:54.77.
