Hockey Blanks Ferris State to Open Campaign

Canisius used a 23-save shutout from freshman netminder Jack Lisson and goals from four different players to post a 4-0 victory over Ferris State in collegiate men's hockey action Friday at LECOM Harborcenter in downtown Buffalo.

In the season opener for both programs, the Golden Griffins got goals from four newcomers as seniors Jimmy Goffredo, Noah Quinn and Ethan Wolthers and sophomore L-P Fontaine all found the back of the net in their Canisius debuts.

Martin Lundberg finished with 19 saves between the pipes for the Bulldogs.

Canisius scored a pair of power-play goals in the opening 12 minutes of the contest to grab an early lead. Goffredo opened the scoring at the 8:42 mark of the first with an unassisted effort as he fired a wrist shot past the blocker of Lundberg during a zone entry.
Quinn doubled the margin less than four minutes later when he redirected a centering feed from sophomore Kyan Haldenby over the shoulder of Lundberg to make it a 2-0 contest. The Griffs increased their lead in the early stages of the second period, notching a pair of breakaway goals just 90 seconds apart to make it a 4-0 contest.

Wolthers began the sequence just before the four-minute mark of the middle frame, wiring a wrist shot over the glove of Lundberg. Fontaine added to the Griffs margin moments later, sliding the puck between the legs of Lundberg for his first in Blue and Gold.
That was all the support that Lisson needed as he stopped all six shots he faced in the third to secure the opening-night win.
