Canisius Celebrates Point Against Niagara

Volleyball Heads to New Jersey for a Pair of Metro Matchups

Continuing its five-match road stretch, the Canisius volleyball team travels to New Jersey for a pair of Metro Conference contests Friday and Saturday. The Golden Griffins will start their weekend in Lawrenceville, N.J., on Friday at 6 p.m., when they take on Rider (1-11, 0-3 Metro). The match will be streamed on Rider's BroncVision.

On Saturday, Canisius will travel north on the Garden State Parkway to play at Saint Peter's in Jersey City, N.J. The Peacocks enter the weekend with a record of 2-12, with both of those victories coming in Metro Conference play. The match will be streamed on the Saint Peter's Peacocks Digital Network.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
• Canisius heads to New Jersey fresh off its Metro Conference sweep of longtime rival Niagara on Tuesday night. The 3-0 win for the Griffs over their Battle of the Bridge rival marked the first straight-set win by Canisius on the road in the series since Oct. 18, 2018.
• In the win at Niagara, Canisius was credited with 11 service aces, the second most for the team in a match this season. The Griffs are the third different team in the Metro this season to register 10-or more service aces in a three-set match.
• Redshirt-junior Julia Lenik recorded three of those 11 aces for the Blue and Gold against Niagara. She ranks seventh in the league with her 0.41 aces per set this season.
• Junior Emma Isroff had a match-high four aces in Tuesday's victory to match a career high. She also had a team-high 10 kills for the Blue and Gold.
• Freshman Emily Helmers registered three solo blocks in the win over Niagara. She leads Canisius with 33 blocks and 0.73 blocks per set this year.
• 
Senior libero Brenda Reynaga currently ranks second in the Metro and in the top-50 nationally with her 4.38 digs per set.
• Rider enters Friday's match looking to end an 11-matching losing skid.
• Friday's match against Rider marks the 53rd meeting meeting in series history, and Canisius holds a 34-18 advantage all-time.
• Saint Peter's, which will host Niagara on Friday, is coming off a 3-0 win over Rider on Tuesday.
• Saturday's contest between Saint Peter's will mark the 59th meeting in a series that dates back to the 1989 season.The Griffs are 43-12 all-time against the Peacocks and enter Saturday's contest having won 36 of the last 40 meetings between the two Jesuit schools.

Canisius will close out its five-match road swing Oct. 9-10 with a pair of road matches at Iona and Manhattan.
