Wickström Stumer Sets Saves Record in Victory at Lindenwood

Sophomore goaltender Petter Wickström Stumer posted a school and Atlantic Hockey America record 72 saves to help guide Canisius to a 4-3 victory over Lindenwood in collegiate men's ice hockey action Saturday at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Mo.

Graduate student Alton McDermott and junior Rhys Chiddenton tallied two goals each for the Golden Griffins (9-9-2), who earned a split of the weekend non-conference series with Saturday's victory. Senior Oliver Tarr dished out a career-best three assists in as he played in his 100th career contest.

Oliver Houde, Drew Kuzma and Giovanni Morneau accounted for the three goals for the Lions (9-9-0), who held a 75-26 shot advantage for the contest. Liam Beerman finished with 22 saves between the pipes for the home team.

McDermott opened the scoring less than three minutes into the contest when he tapped home a rebound off the end boards on a point shot from sophomore Carter Patterson for his first goal of the season.
Chiddenton doubled the Canisius advantage moments before the 13-minute mark of the opening frame when he deposited senior Oliver Tarr's backdoor feed past a sprawling Beerman to make it a 2-0 contest. Houde got Lindenwood on the board with a power-play goal in the final minute of the first, beating Wickström Stumer with a rebound to trim the Canisius advantage to one.

Chiddenton restored the Griffs two-goal cushion at the 2:22 mark of the second period with his second goal of the contest, pushing home a loose puck after his initial attempt from close range was turned aside by Beerman.
McDermott notched his second of the game at the 6:39 mark of the third, beating Beerman to the glove side from the right face-off circle. Lindenwood scored twice in a 31-second span to pull within one. Kuzma began the sequence at the 11:31 mark of the third, beating Wickström Stumer to the blocker side while on the rush before Morneau struck on the next shift when he put home a centering feed from Nolan Seed to trim the deficit to 4-3.

The Lions pushed for the equalizer, but Wickström Stumer and the Canisius defense kept them off the board the rest of the way to secure the one-goal victory.
