Game Recap: Ice Hockey |

Hockey Defeated by Lindenwood in Series Opener

Lindenwood scored four goals in the second period to erase a one-goal deficit and defeat Canisius, 5-2, in collegiate men's ice hockey action Friday at the Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Mo.

Jacob Fletcher, Adam Raesler, Louis-Philppe Fontaine and Jake Southgate all found the back of the net during the middle frame for the Lions (9-8-0). Michael Bevilacqua added an insurance marker in the third period, part of a two-point evening. Liam Beerman made xx stops between the pipes for Lindenwood.

Seniors Grant Porter and Kash Rasmussen notched the two goals for Golden Griffins (8-9-2). Senior Chase Clark got the start in goal for Canisius and made 28 saves before being replaced at the start of the third by sophomore Petter Wickström Stumer, who turned aside 12 of the 13 shots he faced.

Porter opened the scoring at the 14:22 mark of the first period, wiring a slap shot over the glove of Beerman from the middle of the slot for his sixth goal of the campaign.
Fletcher tied the game a little more than six minutes into the second period when he beat Clark to the glove side while on the rush to knot the score at 1-1.

The Lions took the lead with a pair of breakaway goals just 32 seconds apart in the middle stages of the second. Raesler gave Lindenwood the lead just before the 11-minute mark of the second when he slid the puck between the legs of Clark on a breakaway before Fontaine converted on his opportunity the following shift with a shot to the blocker side of Clark to make it a 3-1 contest.

Rasmussen pulled the Griffs within one with less than four minutes remaining in the second, stuffing home a loose puck on the back door for his first of the season.
Southgate restored the Lions two-goal advantage with 85 seconds to play in the middle frame, beating Clark on a feed from Bevilacqua to give the Lions a 4-2 advantage heading into the third.

Bevilacqua closed out the scoring at the 7:08 mark of the third, firing a rebound off a Canisius defender and into the goal to determine the three-goal margin of victory.
