Volleyball Drops Midweek Contest to Niagara

Niagara's Kinga Wronska recorded a match-best 13 kills on 33 attempts to hit at a .333 efficiency to pace the Purple Eagles in a 3-1 (25-20, 19-25, 25-21, 27-25) victory over Canisius in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference volleyball action Tuesday evening at the Koessler Athletic Center in Buffalo, N.Y.

Niagara moved to 3-8 (3-0 MAAC) on the season with the win, meanwhile, Canisius fell to 4-9 (2-1 MAAC) with the loss, snapping a three-match winning streak.

Wronska also collected 14 digs to finish with a double-double for the Purple Eagles. Kylie Blessing dished out 15 assists and Mia Schaefer finished with a team-best 18 digs.

Senior Bella Mosquera and redshirt sophomore Julia Lenik paced the Griffs with 11 kills each while freshman Madi Cowan joined the duo in double figures with 10. Senior Ella Bourque dished out 42 assists and junior Brenda Reynaga led three Canisius players in double digits with 18 digs.

After Niagara claimed the opening frame 25-20, Canisius used a 17-4 run to start the second set en route to a 25-19 victory to draw even in the match. Niagara bounced back with a 25-21 win in the third set to carry a 2-1 lead into the fourth frame.

With Niagara forcing match point with a 24-21 advantage in the fourth set, the Blue and Gold hammered home four straight kills to force set point. A Canisius attack error, coupled with kills from Niagara's Wronska and Taylor Jenkins, sealed the deal for the Purple Eagles as they claimed the set, 27-25, to take the match.
