Dominguez Named MAAC Defensive Player of the Week

Canisius graduate goalkeeper Dom Dominguez was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, league officials announced Monday.

The Jacksonville, Fla., native played a key role in the Griffs' 3-1 win over Mercyhurst on Sept. 17, making four saves between the pipes in the victory over the Lakers. Dominguez followed up that performance by recording five saves in a 1-0 shutout victory at Rider to open MAAC play. The clean sheet marked his first in a Golden Griffin uniform and helped lead the Griffs to their first win in a conference opener since the 2011 season.

Canisius (3-3-1, 1-0-0 MAAC) returns home Sept. 27 when the Griffs play host to Iona at the Demske Sports Complex. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. The broadcast will be streamed live on ESPN+.
