Tanke Announces the Addition of Kennedy to Coaching Staff

Canisius head men's soccer coach Michael Tanke announced the addition of Carl Kennedy as an assistant coach for the 2025-26 season on Tuesday.

"I'm thrilled to welcome Carl and his wife, Bea, to the Canisius men's soccer family," Tanke said. "For a young coach, Carl is beyond his years in maturity and experience. His track record as a head coach at the NAIA and USL2 levels speaks for itself. We're only a few weeks into preseason and it's apparent Carl will be adding to our success, both on and off the field."

A native of Blackpool, England, Kennedy played two seasons at Chowan University, earning all-conference honors, before transferring to Shaw University for his final two seasons.

Kennedy started his collegiate coaching career as a graduate assistant at Missouri Baptist University. During his two seasons with the Spartans, Kennedy focused on recruiting and video analysis, eventually helping lead the team to its first Top 25 ranking since 2006.

Following his time at Missouri Baptist, Kennedy served as the head men's soccer coach for two seasons at Williams Baptist University. During his time with the Eagles, Kennedy guided the squad to an American Midwest Conference regular season title in 2023, earning conference coach of the year accolades for his efforts. During his second season in 2024, Williams Baptist made the second round of the NAIA Men's Soccer National Tournament.

Kennedy spent the spring 2025 season as the head coach of FC Buffalo. During his time with the club, Kennedy held an overall record of 7-3-2, earning division runner up in the USL2 Great Forest Division.

Kennedy graduated from Shaw University in May 2020 with a bachelor's degree in psychology. He obtained his master's degree in fitness management from Missouri Baptist University in May 2023.
