Softball Opens MAAC Championship Play Tuesday

After finishing the MAAC regular season with a record of 15-10, the Canisius softball team earned the No. 5 seed in the 2025 MAAC Softball Championship tournament, the conference office announced Sunday. All games in this year's MAAC Softball Championship will be played at Marist's Gartland Park in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., after the Red Foxes secured the league's regular season championship.

The Golden Griffins will start their MAAC Championship schedule on Tuesday, May 6, when the team takes on the eighth-seeded Sacred Heart Pioneers in a single-elimination game. That game will start at 12:30 p.m., and will be broadcast live on ESPN+. The tournament's first single-elimination game between No. 6 seed Rider and the seventh-seeded Quinnipiac Bobcats will start at 10 a.m., on Tuesday. The two winning teams from Tuesday's opening round will advance into the six-team double-elimination portion of the tournament, which begins on Wednesday and runs through the championship final, set for Saturday, May 10. The winner of the 2025 MAAC Softball Championship tournament will earn the conference's berth into the 2025 NCAA Division I Softball Championship field.

The Griffs' two wins at Manhattan on April 29 officially secured the team's berth into the MAAC Softball Championship field for the fifth-straight year and for the 27th time in program history. Canisius has won more MAAC Softball Championship titles (13) than any other team in the league, with the last league championship coming in 2022.
