Abbey Nagel Joins Softball Coaching Staff

Canisius head softball coach Joe Gierlak announced today that former Buffalo softball standout Abbey Nagel has joined his coaching staff for the 2027 season.

Nagel, who graduated from Buffalo last May with her degree in business administration, joins the Golden Griffin coaching staff after setting the school records for career games played (204), career putouts (1,208) and career fielding percentage (.994). A two-time All-Mid-American Conference (MAC) Second Team honoree, Nagel finished her collegiate career with a .304 batting average to go with 46 doubles, 18 home runs, three triples, 102 RBI and 101 runs scored.

Off the field, Nagel was named a MAC Presidential Award winner following her senior season and she was named to the MAC All-Academic Team on three occasions. A two-time College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honoree, Nagel was presented with the Female Ideal Bull Award, presented annually to a senior female student-athlete who served as a strong ambassador for both the UB athletic department and campus.

A native of Averill Park, N.Y., Nagel has spent time as an assistant coach and hitting instructor with the Capital District Fusion 12U and 14U travel programs, based out of Albany, N.Y.
