Baseball Takes Down Siena

Junior Mason Cisco went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and three RBI to power Canisius to a 7-4 victory over Siena in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference baseball action Saturday at Connors Park in Loudonville, N.Y.

The Golden Griffins improved to 9-14 in MAAC play and 12-26 on the season with the win while Siena fell to 18-27 overall with a 14-10 league ledger with the setback.

Graduate student Levi Abbott picked up the win on the mound for Canisius, allowing one run on two hits while striking out five in five innings of work. Holden Phelps took the loss for the Saints after allowing five runs in five innings.

Cisco posted the only multi-hit game for Canisius to lead the Griffs lineup. He was backed by junior Andrew Marcello, who went 1-for-3 with a two-run single in the sixth inning. Senior Trent Rumley and redshirt freshman Justin Bremner both recorded an RBI each for the Griffs, with Bremner hitting a solo home run in the fifth inning.

Trailing 1-0 after three innings of play, the Griffs were able to pull in front in the fourth, using back-to-back RBI singles from Cisco and Rumley to grab a 2-1 lead before Bremner's solo shot in the fifth extended the Canisius margin to 3-1.

The Saints cut the deficit to one after a fielder's choice brought home a run in the home half of the fifth.

Canisius gained some breathing room in the top of the sixth as a two-run homer from Cisco and a two-run single from Marcello stretched the advantage to 7-2. The Saints were able to pick up two runs in their final two at-bats, but it was unable to spark a rally and the Griffs held on to record the 7-4 triumph.
