Golf Sits in Eighth After Day One of MAAC Championship

The Canisius golf team posted a score of 295 on Thursday and sits in eighth place in the field after the first day of the 2025 MAAC Golf Championship at Disney's Magnolia Course in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The Golden Griffins are five shots back of seventh-place Merrimack and seven shots behind sixth-place Fairfield after the tournament's first 18 holes.

Senior Ryan Edholm led the way for Canisius on Thursday after he shot a one-under par round of 71, his 12th round at-par or better this season. After starting the day with a bogey on the first hole, the Tonawanda, N.Y., native answered with four birdies on his next 12 holes to sit at -3. However, Edholm posted bogey the par-4 16th and par-4 18th hole to finish one-under for the round. He is in a four-way tie for 11th in the field.

Sophomore Mikey Takacs is tied for 15th after he posted a 72 on Thursday, while freshman Chase Burgess is tied for 32nd after he shot 75. Sophomore Alex Schickling shot 77 on Thursday, highlighted by his eagle-three on the par-5 15th hole, one of five eagles posted in the round on the day.

Sacred Heart and Rider are tied a the top of the team leaderboard after round one, as both teams posted a team score of 283 on the day. Fairfield's Tadgh Burke and Mount St. Mary's golfer Martin Hurtado are tied top the individual leaderboard after both golfers fired a five-under 67 in the opening round.

The second round of the 54-hole MAAC Golf Championship will tee off at 10 a.m., on Friday.
