Baseball Takes Loss to Cincinnati

Cincinnati starter Nathan Taylor held Canisius to one run in 7.0 innings pitched while striking out nine en route to a 10-1 win over Canisius Saturday afternoon in non-conference collegiate baseball action at UC Baseball Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio.

With the win, the Bearcats improve to 9-6 in non-conference play and take a 3-0 series lead over Canisius. The Golden Griffins continue fell to 0-9 in non-conference action.

Taylor improved to 2-0 on the season after being credited with the win, holding the Griffs to three hits and two walks on 92 pitches. Junior starter Felix Morin took the loss after 5.0 innings of work, where he allowed six runs (four earned) and eight hits while punching out one batter.

The lone source of offense for the Griffs came off the bat of senior Trent Rumley, who hit a solo home run in the second inning. Rumley went 1-for-3 on the day, tallying his team leading eighth RBI of the season. Sophomore Eric Weeks and junior Mason Cisco tallied the other two hits for the Griffs, who finished the day with three hits for the game. In total, Canisius tallied five base runners in the contest.

For the Bearcats, three batters recorded multiple RBI as Tommy O'Connor, Landyn Vidourek and Cal Sefcik all drove in a pair of runs for the home team. Vidourek got the scoring started in the first inning, hitting a two-run blas, and was followed by an RBI fielder's choice to put the Bearcats up 3-0 early in the contest.

Rumley got a run back in the second with his home run, but Cincinnati answered again in the third as a fielding error brought home two runs, putting them up 5-1. The Bearcats continued to pour on the runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings, bringing their advantage to 10-1 in the seventh.
