Glebs Prohorenkovs tallied two goals and an assist to lead Niagara to a 6-2 victory over Canisius in Atlantic Hockey America action Tuesday at Dwyer Arena in Lewiston, N.Y.

Prohorenkovs highlighted a balanced Purple Eagles (15-12-3, 13-7-2 AHA) attack that saw 12 different players register a point as Trevor Hoskin and Tyler Wallace notched a goal and an assist each. Drew Vieten and Spencer Young accounted for the other two Niagara goals while Pierce Charleson finished with 36 saves.

Graduate student Mikey Colella and sophomore Trey Funk netted third-period goals for the Golden Griffins (9-19-2, 9-11-2 AHA). Freshman Petter Wickström Stumer got the start between the pipes for and made 27 saves before being replaced by sophomore Ethan Robertson at the start of the third.

Hoskin opened the scoring exactly halfway through the first period as he collected a feed from Ray Murakami in front of the Canisius goal and slid the puck past Wickström Stumer for his 11th goal of the season.

Niagara took control of the contest in the second, scoring three goals on 19 shots to build a 4-0 cushion.

Prohorenkovs doubled the Purple Eagles advantage just 90 seconds into the middle frame, beating Wickström Stumer with a wrist shot to the blocker side from below the left face-off circle to make it a 2-0 contest.

Wallace increased the margin to 3-0 with 7:32 elapsed in the second when he finished off a 2-on-1 rush with a shot over the glove of Wickström Stumer for his 11th goal of the campaign.

Vieten closed out the second-period barrage with less than five minutes to play in the stanza, wiring a wrist shot over the right shoulder of Wickström Stumer during a zone entry to give the home team a four-goal lead.

Canisius found the back of the net twice in the opening five minutes of the third to trim the deficit in half. Colella got the Griffs on the board moments before the two-minute mark when he put home his own rebound for his fourth of the season.
Funk made it a 4-2 contest at the 4:35 mark of the third, tapping home a loose puck during a goalmouth scramble for his eighth goal of the season. Niagara put the game out of reach in the final minutes, tacking on a pair of empty-net goals from Prohorenkovs and Young to determine the four-goal margin of victory.
