Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Unable to Find Rhythm in Loss to Eastern Michigan

Believe Tshibangu recorded a game-high 14 points to go with nine rebounds to guide Eastern Michigan to a 70-39 win over Canisius in intercollegiate women's basketball action Friday at the Koessler Athletic Center in Buffalo, N.Y.

Brooklyn Thrash and Peyton Hill each added 12 points while Sisi Eleko posted a game-high 11 rebounds and chipped in 10 points to post the double-double for the visiting Eagles (1-1). As a team, Eastern Michigan shot 43.1% from the field and was a nearly perfect 10-for-11 from the free-throw line.

Sophomore Irene Rey Pineda scored a career-high 12 points to highlight a Golden Griffins (0-2) attack that converted just seven field goals (7-for-42) for the game, shooting at a frigid 16.7% clip. Junior Shariah Gailes grabbed six of the Griffs' 28 rebounds in the contest.

The Eagles held the Griffs scoreless for the opening 6:22 of the contest, eventually building a 27-2 lead at the halfway point of the second quarter. A right corner three-point shot out of the hands of Pineda ended the Canisius drought, however, the Griffs still trailed 31-12 heading into the halftime break.

In the second half, Eastern Michigan continued to build its lead, outscoring Canisius in the third quarter by an 18-10 margin before finishing the game with a 21-17 advantage in the fourth to complete the wire-to-wire victory.
