Five Canisius players scored in double-figures, led by junior Bryan Ndjonga and his game-high 17 points, as the host Golden Griffins posted an 84-43 victory over Allegheny in non-conference men's basketball action Thursday night at the Koessler Athletic Center.

Ndjonga added seven rebounds and three assists to the winning cause as Canisius evened its record at 1-1. Junior Khalil Singleton and freshman Chris Kumu both scored 16 points for the Blue and Gold, while freshman Brendan Oliver came off the bench to add 11 points. Junior Mike Evbagharu scored 10 points to go with seven rebounds, four assists and five steals on the night, as the Griffs closed out the game by shooting 48.5 percent from the field and out-rebounding the Gators by a 44-30 count.

For Allegheny, James Sitter scored a team-high 10 points, while Ryan Lang added six points. The Gators shot 32 percent from the field, made 4-of-22 chances from 3-point land and turned the ball over 19 times, which Canisius converted into 23 points.

The Griffs led wire-to-wire in their home-opening victory, scoring the game's first 10 points to jump out to an early 10-0 lead just 3:57 into the contest. A bucket by Lang with 11:08 left in the opening half got Allegheny within six points at 15-9, but Canisius answered with a 9-0 run over the next 3:00 to push its cushion to 27-9 with 7:49 left before intermission. The Griffs went into the locker room at halftime up 42-23 after shooting 42.9 percent from the field and converting on 8-of-9 from the free-throw stripe.

Canisius scored the first eight points out of intermission to drive its lead to 28 points at 51-23. In that quick surge, Kumu scored four points, highlighted by an alleyoop-dunk and Evbagharu drilled a 3-pointer from the right wing for one of the Griffs' nine makes from behind the arc on the evening. Canisius shot 54.8 percent from the floor in the game's final 20 minutes, with five of the team's 17-made buckets coming from 3-point land.
