Women's Basketball Drops Season-Opener at Michigan

Four Wolverines recorded double-digits in the scoring column to lead No. 13/15 Michigan to a 100-40 win over Canisius in non-conference women's basketball action Tuesday evening at the Crisler Center in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Mila Holloway led the way with 21 points and seven steals for Michigan, who teamed up for 25 steals overall in the contest. Te'Yala Delfosse had 14 points, six boards, two assists and two steals in the win for the Wolverines. 

For Canisius, junior Mary Copple scored a team-high eight points after she went 3-for-4 from the floor, including a pair of makes from 3-point land. Junior Shariah Gailes collected a game-high nine rebounds for the Griffs.

The Wolverines led the contest wire-to-wire after scoring the first basket of the season just four seconds into the game. Michigan outscored the Golden Griffins in the opening quarter by a 23-14 margin and went on to take 51-26 lead into the halftime break. 

GAME NOTES
• Tuesday's contest marked the first time in program history where the Griffs opened the season against a Big 10 opponent.
• Canisius and Michigan met for just the third time in series history, with Michigan winning all three games.
• Gailes has pulled down five-or more rebounds in 25 contests as a Griff.
• Six Griffs made their debut with the program on Tuesday night.
 
UP NEXT
Canisius opens up its home slate against Eastern Michigan and former head coach Sahar Nusseibeh on Friday evening. Tip-off at the Koessler Athletic Center is slated for 6:30 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
