Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Defeated by Cincinnati

Five Cincinnati players scored in double figures as the Bearcats posted a 96-57 win over Canisius in non-conference women's basketball action Sunday afternoon at Fifth Third Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Reagan Jackson led the way with 23 points for the host Bearcats (2-4), who shot 56.1 percent (37-of-66) from the floor in the victory. Mya Perry added 13 points while Caliyah DeVillasee (12 points, 10 rebounds) and Ramiyah Byrd (10 points, 11 rebounds) each notched double-doubles. 

Sophomore Irene Rey Pineda led the Golden Griffins attack (0-7), registering a career-high 14 points as she went 4-for-5 from the floor and 1-for-2 from behind the 3-point arc. Sophomore Corniya Clay added a career-high 10 points, sinking five of her eight attempts from the floor to mark the first double-digit performance of her career.

Cincinnati led the contest wire-to-wire, notching the first six points of the game on its way to building a 21-14 lead after the first quarter. 

The Bearcats opened the second quarter with another quick spurt, this time recording the first eight points as they grew their advantage to 15 before capping the frame with a pair of buckets to take a 51-28 lead into the locker room. 

The second half saw Cincinnati continue to build on their cushion, leading by as many as 42 in the final moments before settling on the 39-point margin of victory. 


GAME NOTES
• Tuesday's contest marked the first all-time meeting between the two programs.
• Canisius matched up with a Big 12 team for the first time since facing Texas on Dec. 16, 2015.
• Junior Kelsey Bess and sophomore Yasmine Djibril both chipped in eight points. Rey Pineda, Clay, Bess and Djibril accounted for 40 of the Griffs' 57 points.
• Canisius scored a season-high 38 points in the paint during Sunday's matchup.
• Rey Pineda reached double figures for the fourth time this season with her 14-point performance.

Canisius returns home to face Mercyhurst on Nov. 30th for Griffsgiving. Tip off at the Koessler Athletic Center is scheduled for 1 p.m. and the contest will be available on ESPN+.
